A walk along the Seine from Notre Dame to the Louvre

On a recent trip to Paris I tried out the X-E1 with the FX 18-55 kit lens. The 16M X-Trans CMOS without optical low-pass filter performs impressively well under low/mixed light conditions however with bright sunshine the images turn out disappointingly "flat" and boring. Setting DR to AUTO helps a bit, nevertheless situations where the EOS 5D would excel in colour and tonality the X-Trans disappoints. Image sharpness is excellent anyway and out-of-the-camera JPGs are the best I've ever seen - in colour mode. In-camera B/Ws are as grey and uninteresting as with any other digital camera I have used (apart from the iPhone). The panoramic mode works much better than with the X100 - probably due to increased CPU power.
