"Lissssten, it's not so easy!"
Earlier this week I was in Warsaw, Poland. This reminded me of one colleague at DESY who was responsible for our DAQ. During one surreal night shift I made the following entry to the HERMES logbook (thanks to Chris for digging this out):
DAQ expert examines script and complains extensively and passionately about "total idiotism of several scripts executed on many different computers". He suggests that the authors of this "should be recycled to Whiskas but this Whiskas would be poison for cats so they should be recycled to soap." [Recoil person wonders at this point if the authors or the poisoned cats should be recycled to soap.]
Only one year passed by since I left HERMES but all these stories seem so far away and unreal and absurd that I'm sometimes not sure if it really was like that - but it was.
